Identity theft occurs when a person obtains your personal information to
steal money from your accounts, open new credit cards, apply for loans
or commit other crimes using your identity. These acts can damage
your credit, leave you with unwanted bills and cause you countless hours
of frustration to clear your good name.
If you are a victim of identity theft or account fraud, notify LNB immediately
by calling (315) 946-4871.
If you are a victim, we also suggest that you do the following immediately:
1. Call the fraud departments of all three major credit bureaus and ask
them to put a “fraud alert” on your credit report. This alerts creditors
to contact you before opening any credit accounts in your name.
Equifax: 1-800-525-6285
Experian: 1-888-397-3742
TransUnion: 1-800-680-7289
2. Contact your local police department and ask to file a report. This step
can assist in clearing your credit records later and may lead to the
capture of the criminal.
3. File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) by calling
their identity theft hotline at 1-877-IDTHEFT (438-4338) or filing it
online at www.consumer.gov/idtheft.
